Instagram has launched a trade mark dispute against Microsoft over the use of the suffix ‘gram’ in the trade mark ‘Actiongram’ which Microsoft had registered.
In the dispute Instagram opposes ‘Actiongram’ on two counts:
1) The goods and services related to the ‘Actiongram’ trade mark are too closely associated with those of Instragram.
2) It could cause the public to believe incorrectly that the particular line of products belonging to Microsoft are affiliated with Instagram.
Although Instagram has lodged many trade mark related disputes against the use of ‘gram’ this is the first one against such a global company.
