Amazon created a plan to protect its drones from attack from various sources, physical (natural such as lightening and manmade such as bows and arrows) and electronic (computer hacking) which is has now patented. The patent was filled in 2014 but only recently published.
The patent mentions counter measures that will be enabled should the drones come under attack.
The “compromise system” documented on the patent states the drones will make use of the following:
- use numerous sensors to orient the drone based on the sun’s position in the sky.
- check with other drones and data sources to verify the readings the drones are following to stay on course.
- use evasive maneuvers and if necessary navigate to a safe landing place for inspection.
