On St. Valentine’s Day, the team at Dawn Ellmore Employment take a look at the most innovative Valentine’s patents.
The Love Box
A patent for this, ahem, “invention” was obtained in the USA by Dale A. Ledman and George Spector in 1980. The abstract of the patent says it all:
“A box for use as a token between lovers for assuring their love to each other; the box including an instruction sheet that states the box is filled with love, and no matter how often it is opened, it can never be emptied; and to get a little love, the box should be opened for a short time, while to receive all the persons love it should be left open all the time; the box including a case and a removable cover.”
If we can find out where you can get your hands on one, we’ll let you know…
The Kissing Shield
The kissing shield patent was granted to Deloris Gray Wood in the USA in 1998. The kissing shield is a device that allows the user to kiss people without having to worry about the spread of germs and diseases – perhaps this gift is due a revival given what we have all had to endure over the past couple of years?
The Heart Shaped Umbrella
To finish off, how about something that is both endearing and practical? The heart shaped umbrella was designed by Nick Clarke, and was granted a US Design Patent in 2009. Given that the weather in February can be pretty terrible, we think that Mr. Clarke might actually be on to something here.
