Disney Patents Footwear Tracking System to Enhance User Experiences at Magic Kingdom

Dawn Ellmore Employment - Disney patent footwear tracking system

Disney filed a patent in April 2015 which describes a method whereby a mix of sensors and cameras take a picture of people’s footwear and then combine that with personal data of customers such as their name, home town and interests that allows a personal identification file for each visitor to be generated.  The scanners and sensors are said to be located towards the ground and hidden within Magic Kingdom.  The tracking technology (which picks up people’s footwear) follows customers around the park to see where they go and what interests them to allow the software to gather valuable information such as the most popular rides and routes taken to reach the attractions.  The idea is to then use this data to give customers a more personalised experience around Magic Kingdom based on their likes and dislikes.
