One of Amazon’s latest patents (United States Patent 9711985) described as “techniques for mobile device charging using robotic devices” on the patent application aims to fill a gap in the market for consumers who need to use their smartphones in public places but are often running short of battery life and have no access to public smartphone chargers.

The patent application details a system for a fleet of charging robots that consumers can call to them in public places (such as airports or shopping centres). Once an Amazon charge robot is summoned it determines the consumer’s location and navigates to the consumer using synthetic vision.  The charge robot can then offer the consumer a portable charging cable and charge them for charging up their smartphones.
